What Is A Dedicated Satisfactory Server?

A dedicated server is a hosting method that clients, or players, use to access a game. Data is exchanged between the host and client to keep track of inventories; factory builds and much more.

If something changes within the game, this information is relayed to the server. The relevant file will then be updated and saved, all in less than a second in most cases.

Thinking about multiplayer is a great way to visualize it. Most games, including Satisfactory, come with the option to play online with others. Having a dedicated server is similar, but with far fewer limitations.

For example, multiplayer within Satisfactory has a maximum capacity of 4 players. By setting up a dedicated server, this number becomes virtually limitless.

How To Pick The Right Dedicated Server Hosting

Making the right selection when looking for a Satisfactory dedicated server is crucial. This choice will impact various areas of the game's performance, with connectivity being the main factor. Luckily, there are a few things you can evaluate before making a decision:

Capabilities

Different players will need different things from their server. Variables may include the maximum number of people on the server at once, or where each player is located in the world. Checking that all of your requirements can be met by the dedicated server host will help to avoid disappointment.

Uptime

Naturally, you and everyone that plays within your server will want maximum uptime. This is one of the biggest advantages of renting a dedicated server. It will be hosted on a powerful infrastructure that will keep you online for longer. Even if the host is not currently online, other players can hop into the lobby and play as normal.

Performance

Having a high-performance server can help to reduce lag and other issues related to having a high ping. This type of hosting will also enable you to stay on top of resources, meaning you don’t have to worry about storage limits.

Those who offer top-quality servers will have no issues with displaying all of the relevant specifications, such as the processors used within the server itself. Keeping an eye out for providers that offer the latest hardware can help to ensure that you make the right choice.

Cost

Finally, ensuring that you are getting good value when renting a dedicated Satisfactory server is important. Regardless of whether you’re splitting the payment between players, or using this server predominantly for yourself, it’s always good to check the price.

Why not look for a provider that doesn’t sign you up for a long-term plan? Monthly installments with no commitment is the deal preferred by many. This way, you can cancel the server at any time.

With Hostari, you can check all of the points mentioned above by taking advantage of our free trial. For 24 hours you can gain access to a dedicated server of your own. You can also invite your friends to test out the server too, no commitment required.

4. Open Satisfactory and navigate to ‘Server Manager’. Then click on ‘Add Server’.

5. Add the server IP and port. These details can be found within your provider dashboard.

6. The same information can then be shared with anyone that you want to play with.

That’s how easy it is to configure a dedicated server when renting! Each hosting dashboard will be slightly different, but most will clearly showcase the satisfactory server manager options. Of course, each provider should also have a customer support team that is on call to answer any questions you may have.

The Requirements For Hosting Your Own Server

Hosting your own server can be done; however, there are a few requirements that your device must meet. The server can be set up on the same PC you use to play, or a spare device that has all of the following:

  • The latest version of windows is installed.
  • A dedicated graphics card.
  • 8GB of RAM.
  • 15GB of available storage space.

If you have multiple devices that meet these criteria, it’s highly advised that you set the server up on one and play on the other. This will ensure that your gaming experience is not hindered due to being the host.

How To Set Up Your Own Server

Starting your own server can be complicated, but we are here to help. Here is a step-by-step guide for opening your own Satisfactory dedicated server

1. Download SteamCMD. This is one of the easiest software to use when trying to create your own server. Once you’ve downloaded SteamCMD, you can extract and install it.

2. Open SteamCMD. A black box will appear and required files will be automatically downloaded.

3. When text stops appearing, type ‘login anonymous’ and hit enter.

4. After logging in, type ‘app_update 1690800’ and hit enter.

5. Now you can open your file explorer. Find the SteamCMD folder that you downloaded previously, open it and go into ‘common’. Then open the ‘SatisfactoryDedicatedServer’ folder.

6. Right-click within this folder and create a new text document. Name this document ‘start.bat’.

Double-check this to ensure that the file is named ‘start.bat’ and not ‘start.bat.txt’. The file type should also change into a batch format.

7. Again, right-click this newly created .bat file and click ‘edit with notepad’ or your text editor of choice. Paste this code into the file and save:

FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended exit

8. You can now open this file and your server will be created. This may take some time to initialize.

9. Finally, you need to open the following ports on your computer (Windows Firewall) and internet router: 15000, 7777, 15777. Each device has a different process for doing this, with Google being your best bet here. Search for your device name followed by ‘how to open ports’.

How To Start Your Dedicated Satisfactory Server

With all of the backend stuff done, you can now load up Satisfactory. Keep in mind that it’s important to keep the ‘start.bat’ file open while doing this, or your server will not be available to join.

Once Satisfactory is open, you can perform the final steps for setting up your server:

  • Go to server manager and click on ‘add server’.
  • Enter the external IP address of your server and leave the port as default.
  • You can then click on the tab labeled ‘create game’.
  • From here, you will be prompted to add a server name, session name, and two passwords (optional). Make sure you keep a note of these, ideally on a piece of paper.
  • Now all you have to do is select your preferred starting area and click ‘create game’.
  • Sit back and wait for the server to load. When you spawn in, the server is ready!

Inviting Friends To Your Server

To invite your friends to your new server, you will need to give them the external IP address of the server. If you opted to add a password for players, this will also be required.

In regards to the port option, this can be left as default. They can then click ‘join game’. Your friend should now be able to access the same session as you.
